You will learn how to pick up and crochet around your finished knitting to add a finished edge or a beautiful touch of lace.  Make your projects stand out!

This is a two part class.  The first session you will learn basic crochet stitches including the chain stitch, single crochet, half double and double crochet, and slip stitch.  With these stitches you will be able to combine them in different ways to add a finished edge to any knitted piece. You will learn to work across an edge and also learn how to go around an entire piece, for example a blanket, to finish on all four sides. The second session reviews stitches learned in the first session and will work on some more intricate edgings for a decorative finish to your pieces.  You will learn a picot edging and a double loop edging, better for finer gauge work.  A variety of scalloped edgings will be explained and demonstrated and when to use them. There should be time to practice this technique.

Supplies Needed:

  • Bring to class an item you want to put edgings on or something that is finished (washcloth) that you can practice on.
  • Also hooks appropriate for the yarn you are using and some different weight yarns.

The cost is $30.

This class begins with the basics:  chain stitch, single crochet, double crochet and slip stitch.  After practicing these stitches, you will begin working on a simple pattern for a dishcloth (supplied) which uses all the stitches you have learned.  You will learn to read a pattern, common abbreviations used and how to finish you dishcloth and weave in the ends.

Supplies Needed:

  • You will need 1 skein of worsted weight cotton,
  • Size H crochet hook
  • tapestry needle to weave in ends.

Magic Loop is a technique in the round using one long circular needle.  It can be used for knitting socks, hats, cowls, mitts, or anything you want to knit in the round.  Knitting with this technique eliminated the need to change from a circular needle to double points in any project that requires decreases, as in finishing a hat or socks.  You continue using the same needle with which you started. You will practice casting on and joining, knitting in the round and demos will be given of some helpful techniques which will come up in your patterns.

To take this class you need to know how to cast on, knit, and understand the concept of knitting in the round.

Supplies Needed:

  • You will need one circular needle 7-9 with 36” cord.  For anything larger than baby items or socks a 40” cable is needed.
  • We will use a worsted weight yarn, a light color.

Once you’ve learned to Cast-on and Knit, this class will teach you how to Purl and Yarn-Over. We will make the very popular Eyelet Cowl.

Cost is $20.

Use your fingers to knit a Cowl.

You must arrive at least 30 minutes before class to get your yarn.

The great thing about finger knitting is that it truly is a suitable way to create a pile of handmade gifts at the very last-minute without losing your mind. Before you swan dive into finger knitting, here are a few tips:

  1. It feels a bit awkward at first, but stick with it because it’s really fun and worth the initial awkwardness.
  2. Take off your rings and wear sleeves you can push up out of the way of your knitting.
  3. Keep your tension loose so you can easily slip the stitches off your fingers. Tight knitting can cut off your circulation and slow you down.
  4. This is a stash buster project, so don’t be afraid to mix in some of your less attractive yarns with more colorful strands for added bulk.
  5. If you finger knit in public, onlookers may initially think you’re trying to tie yourself up, but don’t worry about it and just keeping knitting. In about 20 minutes, these folks will think you’re a craft god.

Supplies Needed:

  • You need a J crochet hook
  • Look throught your button stash or bring your favorite big button for this project.

Class is $25.00 this includes your yarn (one skein of marble chunky) button not included.

  1. Keep your tension loose so you can easily slip the stitches off your fingers. Tight knitting can cut off your circulation and slow you down.
